The Story Behind Our Bamboo Cutlery
The Story Behind Our Bamboo Cutlery
Our bamboo cutlery is hand-carved at a small carpentry studio nestled in the rural province of Thanh Hóa, approximately 150 kilometres from Hanoi.
The rugged landscape of Thanh Hóa – with its steep, rocky mountains and fertile valleys – makes it an ideal environment for bamboo to thrive. The province receives around 1,800 mm of rainfall each year, more than triple the average in famously rainy London, creating perfect growing conditions for this fast-regenerating plant.
Bamboo has long been a part of life in Thanh Hóa. For generations, local communities have used it for construction, tools and handicrafts, harvesting it sustainably and respecting the land it grows on. This deep connection to nature makes the region a natural home for our artisans and their timeless craft.
The Jungle Culture team first discovered Thanh Hóa in 2018 while sourcing bamboo straws from a nearby farm. A year later, they returned to collaborate with a group of talented craftspeople who shared their vision for sustainable, small-scale production.
Our partners in Thanh Hóa live simply, surrounded by mountains in a secluded enclave of bamboo bungalows. They use only basic hand tools, relying on traditional carving techniques to create each piece with precision and care. Every fork, knife and spoon is made with respect for the material – and the environment it comes from.
Over the past year, our design team has worked closely with these artisans to create a durable, organic and long-lasting bamboo cutlery set – a beautiful alternative to disposable plastic utensils. Each piece reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, ethical production and the belief that functional design can also serve a higher purpose.
At Auri Home, we’re proud to support these artisans and the communities they represent. Together, we’re turning one of nature’s most renewable resources into everyday tools that help people around the world live more consciously.
